They say the only thing a nursing student should be in love with is their books. But let’s be honest, the heart wants what it wants—even when the brain is trying to memorize pharmacology.

We asked NUNSA members to share their experiences of dating on campus. From “reading room dates” to the struggle of dating non-medics, here is the tea on love in the College of Medicine.

The “Reading Room” Date

Anonymous, 400L: “My boyfriend and I are both in the College. Our idea of a date is going to the New Building reading room at 7 PM. We don’t even talk. We just sit side-by-side, studying. Occasionally he buys me Gala or fan ice. It sounds boring to outsiders, but there is something romantic about suffering together. If he can handle me during MB exams week, he’s the one.”

The “Long Distance” Struggle (Akoka vs. Idi-Araba)

Tola, 200L: “I’m dating someone in the Engineering faculty at the main campus (Akoka). Honestly, it feels like a long-distance relationship. The shuttle bus ride isn’t long, but our schedules are worlds apart. When he is free to hang out, I have clinicals. When I am free, he is playing football. If you want to date an ‘Akoka’ person, you need patience—and plenty of data for video calls.”

“Medic x Medic” Disasters

Chibuzor, 500L: “I dated a medical student in my 300L. It was a disaster. We were both too stressed, too busy, and too tired to make it work. Our conversations were just comparing trauma from ward rounds. I’ve decided to date someone outside the medical field now. I need someone who doesn’t smell like hospital disinfectant.”

The “Stella” Walk of Shame

Anonymous: “The hardest part of dating in the hostel is the lack of privacy. Trying to have a private phone conversation on the Stella corridor while five other girls are fetching water or shouting is an extreme sport. You learn to whisper really fast.”

The Verdict?

Dating in CMUL is hard, but not impossible. It requires planning, understanding, and a partner who knows that sometimes, a 15-minute break to eat noodles together is the highlight of the week.
